How do I...?

  1. Create new case, question, or term based on the existing content item?
    - Search for case, question, or term based on which to create new content item
    - Click "Prototype" to create a copy of it
    - Edit new content item (if necessary) - Click "Save".

  3. Create new case, question, or term from scratch?
    - From Main Manu click on "Create new question", "Create new case" or "Create new term" link.
    - Fill out the form. For help on how to use auxiliary fields (ALT Tag, Description and Editor Comments) click here.
    - Once done, click "Save".

  5. Crete new equation based on the existing equation?
    - Search for equation based on which to create new content item
    - Click "Prototype" next to the existing equation to create a copy of it
    - Copy MathML from the Add/Edit Equation pop-up and paste it into MathType 5.0
    - Edit equation in MathType 5.0 (make sure that MathType preferences are as outlined in the How to create new equation in MathType? section)
    - Save new equation as gif file
    - Upload gif file by clicking "Browse" in the Add/Edit Equation pop-up
    - Update the MathML of the newly created equation by copying new equation from MathType and pasting it in the MathML window in the Add/Edit Equation pop-up
    - Edit Description and ALT Tag as needed. Click here for more info on how to use and format these fields.
    - Click "Save".

  7. Create new equation in MathType?
    - Before you start, search equations already uploaded into LCMS. MathType makes it easy to modify existing equations, so the search may prove useful even if you don't find the exact equation you need. See How to create new equation based on the existing equation? section.

    - Open MathType 5.0
    - Set preferences as follows:
    • Translators = MathML 2.0 (namespace attr)
      How? From Main Menu, click Preferences then Translators… Select radio button next to Translation to other language (text): and choose Select MathML 2.0 (namespace attr) from the drop down. Make sure that the option to Include MathType data in translation is checked.
    • Bitmap resolution = 96 dpi
      How? From Main Menu, click Preferences then Web and GIF preferences… In the Bitmap resolution section, select radio button next to 96 dpi.
    • Bitmap background = Transparent
      How? From Main Menu, click Preferences then Web and GIF preferences… In the Bitmap background section, check Transparent.
    • Style = Math
      How? From Main Menu, click Style then select Math.
    • Color = black
      How? From Main Menu, click Format then select Color then Black.

    - Create equation
    - Save new equation as gif file:
    • Make sure the file name is 30 characters or less (excluding ".gif")
    • Do NOT use spaces in file names, use underscores for word separation
    • For best aesthetics create image no more than 250 pix wide
    • Choose a name that will help you quickly find appropriate gif on your computer

  9. Create new item set?
    - Search for question to be included in new item set

    - Click "Create Item Set" button
    - Enter question search criteria and click "Search"

  21. Edit case, question, or term?
    - Search for case, question, or term you would like to edit
    - Click "Edit"
    Note: Cases can by edited by an editor-in-chief only. Editors can only edit questions and terms assigned to them.
    - Make desired changes

  23. Edit equation?
    - Currently equations can't be edited. If you discover a mistake in an equation attached to any questions create new equation as outlined in the How to create new equation based on the existing equation? section.

    When done creating new equation, follow steps outlined below for each question with the invalid equation:
    - Enter question edit mode by clicking on "Edit"
    - Remove the invalid equation by clicking on the "Remove equation" button (if there is more than one equation attached to this question, make sure to click on the appropriate "Remove..." button)
    - Click on "Add equations" button
    - Click "Upload new equation"
    - File path: Click Browse to locate the equation in gif format
    - MathML: Open equation in MathType 5.0 and copy and paste it into the MathML window (This should extract MathML code; if code doesn't look as expected, verify translation settings in MathType.)

    - To add / replace questions in the item set, enter question search criteria and click "Search"

    - Continue adding / replacing questions, until the item set is complete.
    - Modify question order (if necessary) and click "Save".

  39. Describe content items using ALT Tag, Description and Editor Comments fields?
    There are three descriptive fields in LCMS: ALT Tag, Description and Editor Comments. All of these fields are searchable and allow you to enter relevant descriptions of content items. When entering descriptions in these fields, keep in mind that:
    - ALT Tag - is visible to the TestBank user, therefore make it clear and relevant. It's limited to 50 characters.
    - Description - is for internal purposes only. Be precise and meaningful when entering content in this field, as it will assure successful search for content in the feature. It's also limited to 50 characters.
    - Editor comments - this field is for internal purposes only and has unlimited entry. Use it to document edits of the content item, assign tasks to editors, etc.

    For other fields' character limitations, refer to the character limitations table.
